Casa meva és casa teva
Catalonia is home to many a professional cyclist - and for good reason. If you’re looking for breathtaking climbs, diverse riding options, perfect weather and world-renowned cuisine, this region is hard to beat.
And our Catalonia experience is like no other, centring around our very own home from home, Can Terrades - a beautiful twelve-bedroom, two-swimming pool private property nestled in a 160-acre estate in the foothills just north of Girona. Retaining many of its original features and newly renovated to the highest specification, this is the ideal launchpad for adventure.
Based at the foot of the Mare de Deu del Mont, with Rocacorba also in clear view, take your pick from big name climbs, rolling hills, hidden gravel tracks and coastal loops - not to mention a maze of running trails and amazing hiking routes.
A warm welcome awaits your return to the house each afternoon where you can relax and recover in style - sweeping mountain views, swimming pools, yoga studios and spa treatments are all on the menu.
Speaking of which, the region’s finest food and drink is integral to the experience with our resident private chef presenting a variety of freshly prepared meals to enjoy al fresco in beautiful surroundings. We’ll also venture out to sample some truly authentic “locals only” lunch spots during the day, with a Michelin star or two never far away.
And of course we’ll take a stroll around the historic old town of Girona itself, checking out the vibrant cycling café scene for a mid-morning coffee or stopping by for an early evening ice cream, or glass of wine.
Catalonia really is a cycling paradise - join one of our many regular trips hosted at our unique accommodation throughout the year for the ultimate experience both on and off the bike.

Mare de Deu del Mont
21km, 1,000m elevation, 4.8% average (from Besalú-Beuda)
Taking its name from the shrine to Virgin Mary perched at the summit, this might be the quintessential Catalonia climb. Narrow, quiet, shady roads wind up through the forest before opening up to reveal panoramic mountain views as you tackle the last few switchbacks to the top. Rest, recover, refuel and take in the views, before riding back down with care - the descent can be sketchy, especially on the Besalú-Beuda side (vs Cabanelles). A true locals favourite, especially for us - the climb starts virtually out of our front door.
Coll de la Boixeda
12.5km, 613m elevation, 4.9% average (from Beget)
This climb feels like the definition of a hidden gem - a long, peaceful, beautiful mountain road snaking up through charming villages and wide open views over the Garrotxa volcanic region. Some steep sections make for a challenging ride up and there’s little in the way of fanfare at the summit - but the descent back to close the loop to Olot is a delight - fast, quiet open roads.
13.8km, 881m elevation, 6.5% average
Last but not least - Girona’s most famous local climb is not to be missed. Starting at Banyoles, you will soon be rewarded by enormous views over it’s lake - and beyond. But first - the small matter of a gruelling ascent through the dense forest with little in the way of views to enjoy and only one short-lived break in an otherwise consistently steep (8-10%) second half. It’s a dead-end road, so you get to enjoy a fast descent down - back the way you came.
